Former Little Chef owner Lawrence Wosskow, who sold the Out of Town Restaurant Group for £25m five years ago, has bought it back from administration for a sum believed to be less than £5m.
As well as the brands he created like Potato Bakehouse and Bitz & Pizza, Wosskow is also in talks to add national brands like Burger King, Costa Coffee and Subway to his food courts.
Wosskow, who moved to Florida last year, wants to bring over some of the American shopping mall food brands and concepts.
OTRG already has 20 locations, a turnover of around £20m and profits of £2.5m, and Wosskow believes he can double the size of the business within three years.
