Dealers believe that Dubai International Capital, the Dubai government’s private equity fund, is considering making a bid for Whitbread.
Whitbread owns the Costa Coffee chain and the Premier Inn hotel chain.
Whitbread’s shares rose 9p to £17.74 on the rumour.
