Regent Inns said it had been notified that Bestinver Gestion had taken a stake of 9.91% in the company.
Regent Inns was among the highest climbers on the stock market this week.
It ended the week up 15p at 117p after it revealed a bid approach, although it closed down 0.25p on the day on Friday.
JD Wetherspoon was also one of the week’s big climbers, up 9p at 390.25p on the week after it gave reassurance on trading in the wake of the Scottish smoking ban.
