NewsOakman Inns CEO Peter Borg-Neal: Happy with 4 July reopening
Peter Borg-Neal has told MCA he was “happy” with the way his estate traded over the 4 July reopening weekend. Speaking to MCA’s virtual event The Conversation, the Oakman Inns CEO said “on balance the weekend went well. “We traded around 83% of last year on a like for like basis on Saturday, and about 82% on the Sunday. We’re quite happy with that number given that we were at 75% capacity in terms of the number of seats and we had no vertical drinking except for in the garden.

Oakman Inns has said it will reopen all of its pubs on 4 July, and has challenged the Prime Minister to tell it otherwise.In a statement on its website, the 28-strong pub operator has said that despite the lack of clarity given to the hospitality sector by the government, its 1,000 employees are preparing to serve drinks and food again by the proposed reopening date.

Oakman Inns & Restaurants has said like for like sales were up 7.3% for the 15 month period ended June 2019. Sales for the period topped £46.7m with LfL sales up 7.3%. Site EBITDA was £8.6m with group EBITDA at £4.2m. “Overall we have maintained our corporate momentum despite an unhelpful environment with the uncertainty around Brexit impacting both consumer and investor confidence,” said Oakman CEO, Peter Borg-Neal.
