Six companies are on the shortlist to buy Glenmorangie, the Edinburgh malt whisky distiller.
Luxury goods group LVMH is thought to be the favourite bidder and would use its distribution channels to build Glenmorangie into an international brand.
The other suitors are Bacardi-Martini, Brown Forman, Pernod Ricard, Edrington and William Grant.
